Your Packing List

We put together this list of some essentials you may want to include in your packing to help insure a comfortable trip.

Alaska's weather is ever changing no matter which time of year you visit, so keep in mind while packing for your Alaskan trip that dressing in layers is always a good idea.

  • Brimmed Hat/Baseball Cap: Great for protection from the sun.
  • Wool or Fleece Hat & Gloves: Nice to have when the wind picks up!
Long Underwear: Any thin material that absorbs moisture from your skin; great for layering, ideal for warmth.
  • Warm Pajamas: It gets chilly at night plan for it.
  • Shirts: You may want to bring a few long sleeved shirts; great for sun protection, warmth and protection from bugs. Short sleeved shirts will be needed as well. A turtle neck covered by a warm sweater is great for trips on the water.
  • Pants: You may want to bring pants which zip-off into shorts, jeans, quick-drying synthetic pants and a pair of sweats for comfort.
  • Socks: Wool is always a great idea.
  • Hiking Boots or Shoes: Lightweight, comfortable and water resistant. Make sure you break them in before your trip, as new shoes can lead to calluses and heal rubs.
  • Walking Shoes: Again Lightweight, comfortable and water resistant. Always make sure you break them in before your trip.
  • Water Proof Boots: A great idea if you plan on being near the water.
  • Rain Gear: A good quality rain suit (both top and bottom) is important to keep you warm and dry.
  • Warm Jacket with Hood: A great idea is a jacket with a water resistant shell and a fleece liner.
  • Sweaters, Sweat shirts and/or Vest: great for layering adding extra warmth.
  • Day Pack: A small pack with shoulder straps that you carry on your back. Large enough to hold rain gear, an extra sweater or warm vest, lunch, water bottle, binoculars and other essentials.

Also Don’t Forget:

  • Binoculars
  • Camera/Film/Extra memory card and/or stick/Batteries/Charger
  • Sunglasses & Sunscreen
  • Field Guides
  • Travel Alarm Clock
  • Insect Repellent
  • Sea sickness bands/ Dramamine
  • Small first aid kit
  • Small Flashlight
  • Water Bottle/Canteen
  • Fishing/Hunting License in water proof case
  • Zip Lock bags: Nice to have on hand to store cell phone, ID or other items better kept dry. Also great to store damp or dirty clothes in.
  • Hand warmers (disposable or reusable): A great idea to have in jacket pockets.
  • Cooler as additional luggage: So you can pack your frozen filets to bring home to family and friends.

You can also arrange to have fish processed and shipped home.
Helpful Hint: Salmon typically yield 50-60% of their body weight in fillets.
